Cassandra Shortte was a Home Economics teacher for 34 years. Her first official training in dressmaking was at the YWCA evening classes. She attended the Sir Arthur Lewis College on the Morne, St Lucia where she specialized in clothing and textiles. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Tourism and Hospital Management from the Mt St Vincent University in Nova Scotia, Canada.  She designs and construct a very wide range of garments for different occasions: weddings, graduations and beauty pageants.  She was the founder of a Community Based Christian organization called Initiative for Women's Empowerment (IFWE).  It was this organization that inspired her to start her first dressmakers' class.
